Night-time views

I didn't get too close, as there were more policemen around today for some reason. Possibly a dress rehearsal for the opening ceremony.

30th July: Not as good as yesterday, apparently precipication really helps keeping the dust/fog down.

29th July: Very pleasant day indeed, no doubt aided by the morning shower. Everything smelled fresh and green.

28th July: Visibility still not great, but at least it's cooled down a bit.

First look at the Olympics site

Well, all the main arenas were fenced off, and will remain so until the opening ceremony. However I managed to take some photos of the surrounding areas this evening.

27th July: Arguably clearer air today than yesterday, but the humidity (and temperature) was still pretty high.

I'm jetlagged

Whilst fighting off the tempation to fall face first onto the keyboard, I would like to announce that I'll be doing a daily monitor of air quality over Beijing for the next 3 weeks. If you've been following the BBC China blog (yeah right) you'll know what I mean.

26th July: Pretty murky out here, breathing was quite a bit more difficult than when I was in London yesterday. Don't have a photo, since it's 10pm right now.

Preparing my documents for visa application, I came across this:

Does this mean that if I'm born in China, I wouldn't need an invitation letter? Would I have to stay at a hotel? Eh?

It's 15:27, can't wait to finish for the day. Noise from the construction works next door is driving me bonkers.

First thoughts of the new Firefox 3: seems awfully similar to 2, but what's with the new 'recently viewed' drop-down menu? It takes up half the bloody screen!

Having told myself to train hard for the rowing season next term, I'm finally getting around to doing some erging today. Not really looking forward to it to be honest...
